Final Curtain or Shower Curtain?

Having only finished watching just one more talent show, Debbie asked her mum "how can I become a singer Mum? She had done what most kids do today; she had confused the opportunity to sing with becoming a singer. The 2 are not necessarily exactly the same.

If you are blessed with a reasonable voice, one that can hold a note or a tune, then the chances are you happen to be a singer. What you do with that gift is down to you. Even more important what you want to do is more to the point.

If, just like young Debbie, you want to be the next Beyonce or Adele then be ready for a lot of hard work, and a lot of disappointments. Just a very few make it to the top, and that's with a lot of talent and much more luck. You will need to practice morning, noon and night, protect your voice, and attend every audition going.

One can possibly increase their possibility of success on how to become a famous singer by having singing lessons from a fully qualified singing coach. Hopefully they will be honest and let you know how good, or bad, you actually are. They will help you improve your voice, and advise the best repertoire for the given range. Even then the chances of success are, at best, minimal.

If you are ready to lower your sights, but still crave the limelight then there is the musical theater. How many of us have delighted watching productions such as Mamma Mia, Les Miserable or Phantom of the Opera. Each and every member of the cast is a singer; many will have started in the chorus line. This is an excellent way of honing your craft. Most of the West End's leading women and men, who are household names today, started their careers in this way. Just remember they may well have attended lots of auditions before striking it lucky. It is not an easy path; however the exhilaration of getting a part can't be beaten.

If fame and fortune isn't what you are looking for, then there are several local churches, choirs and societies searching for people who can sing. You see singing is something that comes from within. It should bring joy to the singer and hopefully the listener. Debbie asked her mum “how to become a singer” but that is not necessarily what she meant is it? Otherwise she could do what most of us do - she could take a shower!
